Leaders Hillwalking Training Weekend
May 18 - May 20
The County Mountain Activities Team are pleased to be running a hillwalking training weekend, where leaders will be able to learn the skills required for a hillwalking permit. The goal of this weekend will be for instruction to be provided on the skills required for a T1/T2 Hillwalking Permit and Remote Wild Camping. It will be run in terrain suitable for candidates who want to pursue T1/T2 summer permits. The weekend will cover the following topics; navigation (including night navigation), group management, group equipment, personal equipment, planning, risk assessment process, weather, emergency procedures, crossing water hazards, steep ground use of confidence ropes and equipment. Competency in all is required for successful recommendation for a permit. Each day will be a mixture of the instructor exploring what the candidate is already capable of and of providing initial training of best practice where required. We will also be undertaking training of remote wild camping and management of young people doing such. Two instructors will be available throughout the weekend to help tailor training to candidates’ requirements.
