Adult awards

Adults in Scouting are amazing, they give up their time to volunteer in so many ways to help provide Skills for life for the 5,000+ young people involved in Scouting across the whole of Gloucestershire.

We want to make sure that these adults know that they are valued and recognised for their amazing work.

To support this we utilise The Scout Association Adult Award scheme which includes awards for good service, outstanding service, meritorious conduct and gallantry.

More locally we have the Inspiring Programme Award and Gloucestershire County Award

Good service awards

If you would like to nominate an adult in Scouting for a Good Service award such as the Commissioners Commendation, Chief Scouts Commendation or the award for merit, please visit the Scouts webpage that describes the award scheme and the critera for the awards.

If you would like to continue, download and complete a copy of the form and send it to your local District Awards Advisory Panel or your District Commissioner.

There is useful guidance on completing a nomination here.

Gloucestershire County Award

The Gloucestershire County Award acknowledges ‘outstanding’ contributions to Scouting in Gloucestershire – usually by non-uniformed persons at group and district level.

The awards are normally presented to those who deserve recognition of their contributions but who, for whatever reason, do not fall within the criteria for an award. The awards will normally be presented annually at the Gloucestershire county AGM.

Inspiring Programme Award

We believe it is important to recognise those amazing leaders and their teams who are providing inspiring programmes to young people across the county. This is a scarf was designed as a way to give recognition and celebrate leaders doing this.

You can see the Hall of Fame of previous winners here

How it works

There is a nomination period twice a year, where we ask for nominations, from the leaders’ peers, young people, parents or via DCs, of leaders who have demonstrated the award criteria.
Nominations can be made at any time via the form below and will be reviewed six monthly by a panel that will be made up of the:

  • Deputy County Commissioner Programme
  • A District Commissioner – not from the nominee’s district
  • County Youth Commissioner
  • A Young Leader

The Criteria

Our aim is to keep the criteria simple we ask those nominating to consider if the nominee:

  • Is an Amazing Leader,
  • Delivers inspiring programmes shaped by young people that make an impact in our communities,
  • Is well recognised as delivering and driving a challenging, relevant and rewarding programme for every young person.

Leaders can be nominated as individuals or as part of a team. We try to encourage nominations for a leader for each section in each district every year. The scarf will then be awarded as part of the county annual presentation evening or AGM with a follow up presentation at their group if they want that to happen.
